With a brand new line-up, the Alex Carpani band is coming back on stage in Europe and North America. New members are Roberto Leoni on drums (devilish prog drummer, old Ettore's mate in gigs all over the world with The Watch and The RedZen) and GB Giorgi, powerful world-renowned rock bass player with many important collaborations as session musician.
2012 gigs are still in working-out, the first confirmed ones are:

Slottskogen Goes Progressive 2011

On the 20th August 2011 held the last edition of the swedish prog festival Slottskogen Goes Progressive in Goteborg. This year the chosen venue has been Musikens Hus, a beautiful concert hall in downtown. In 2003, first time for Ettore in Sweden with The Watch, the location was the arena in Slottskogen Park.
Sheduled were Alex Carpani band as headliners, Agents Of Mercy, Andromeda and other swedish bands.

The day before, 19th August, a gig at Galliano, a little but warm venue in Goteborg, where Ettore, Alex, Fabiano and Giacomo played for the close friends by GARF, the swedish prog association

Next live gig by Alex Carpani Band is the 4th of September at Veruno Prog Festival in Italy. Sheduled are also once again Roine Stolt's Agents Of Mercy.

Very first gig by The RedZen!

On May, 22nd, The RedZen debut at Garden Prog Festival! It's been a wonderful night of music; "Void" has been played live for the first time, also with Joe Sal's guest vocals on "Alexa In The Cage" and "Heaven On Their Minds" (unexpected cover by the band!)
First reviews about the show have been enthusiastic; here are some pics shot at the venue during the gig.

End of January 2011 and it's time for the new album by The RedZen to hit the progressive world! "Void" has been written, arranged and produced by the band, and printed by Ma.Ra.Cash Records.
It's 54 minutes of pure instrumental fusion progressive rock, played with passion and amusement. Kicking rhythm section, powerful guitars and rich keyboards for tunes influenced by Return To Forever, Ozric Tentacles, Weather Report, Pink Floyd, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Genesis, King Crimson and many others.

Back from Tokyo

Another satisfying leg of "The Sanctuary Tour", this time in Japan. A couple of wonderful gigs at Silver Elephant in Tokyo, where Ettore, Alex, Fabiano and Giacomo did their best, and the audience appreciated as usual. The four guys felt very well out there, and hope to come back as soon as possible.
Many thanks go to Hiroshi Masuda from Poseidon Records, all the Baraka staff (Shin, Isei, Max, Tsuneko, great!), Tada, Kaolin, Tomo for their friendship and skill.

The RedZen are proud to announce that "Void" is next to come to life. Mixing and mastering are over, and it will be printed soon, while the band is working on the remaining deals with partners, that should defined within the end of September.

A big "thank you" goes to collaborator and friends who are finishing to work to "Void", in particular Alessia Giangrande for the artwork and Chiara Babini per la fotografia.

Back from Niš

The 27th edition of Nišville Jazz Festival has been the most important musical event in the Balkans. Thanks also to the wonderful organization, the two gigs in Serbia (Niš and Prokuplje) by ACB have been some of the most pleasant of these last years.
After the gigs, a very interesting Prog Workshop with the pupils of Niš music schools, into the Niš Symphony Orchestra Auditorium.
A really big thank you goes to the artistic director Branislav and to the charming host manager Marija.

ACB: tour over and next album

Waterline Tour by Alex Carpani Band has ended the last days of November 2009, after 30 concerts in 8 Countries. The band appeared in 7 International festivals and performed in top rock clubs in Italy and Europe.
The shows involved the 4 musicians of the band plus 3 special guests who performed in some gigs: Aldo Tagliapietra (Le Orme vocalist and bass player), Tony Spada (Holding Pattern guitarist) and Enzo Balestrazzi (sax and flute player).

Alex Carpani Band featuring Aldo Tagliapietra tour has started! The first gig has been held on November, 7th in Ferrara, at Sala Estense.
The five guys have played songs from Waterline, with Aldo on vocals, who's been the official vocalist for the release, and some unreleased tracks and some tunes by Le Orme.

Aldo Tagliapietra doesn't need any kind of presentation, every progger knows his work with Le Orme and as a solo artist. He will be on stage with Alex Carpani Band for a minitour to be held in Fall 2009 in some italian venues, the schedule is focused on the "Waterline" album, in which Aldo has the primary role as a vocalist, and some tunes by Le Orme.

Swedish gig

After some years, a new Swedish gig for Ettore, this time for a concert with Alex Carpani Band, which took place on 16th July at Lidkoping City Park, close to Vanern Lake.
Brighteye Brison and KadaWatha opened the concert, that has been very strong and satisfying for the band and the "Lidköpings ArtRockSällskap", who looked after the organization. Many thanks go, in particular, to Mikael Bennerhed.

"The Akallabeth" released

"The Akallabeth", solo effort by Archangel, has been released for AMS/BTF. It's a concept album based on Tolkien's novels, entirely written by Gabriele Dario Manzini.
Ettore recorded his guitar cuts on three songs, "Power Within", "The Faithful And The Faithless One" and "The Price", playing electric, acoustic and 12 string guitars, among many other musicias such as Damian Wilson, Zachary Stevens, Ted Leonard.

The cd-compilation entitled "Inferno", a project by the finnish Colossus, has been released under Musea Records label. Ettore took part, playing all guitar tracks for the tune "Back To Earth", by Atlantis 1001.

The David Jackson Project

The world renowned saxophonist and flautist David Jackson, former member of Van Der Graaf Generator and Peter Gabriel Band, has come back to Italy for an exceptional gig. With him, a band which featured Ettore, Aldo Tagliapietra (Le Orme), Gigi Cavalli Cocchi (Ligabue, Mangala Vallis, CCCP, Clandestino, Massimo Zamboni, etc.), Alex Carpani, Marco Olivotto.
The schedule is formed by tunes by Jackson as a soloist and some extracts from Van Der Graaf and Le Orme releases. The concert has taken place on November, 14th at Club Il Giardino, Lugagnano (VE).

Norwegian Wood

The Alex Carpani Band went to Norway at Lundetangen, Skien, for a memorable show, thanks also to the audience's warmth.

A Passage to India

A travel to India, event though for a little holiday, left surely many marks... and a strong one, regarding music, has been the purchasing of an exceptional sitar!
It owes 7 melodic strings and 13 resonance ones, an open and powerful timbre, is entirely built in mahogany wood, comes from Varanasi (Benares), and has been built by on of the most Uttar Pradesh sitar instructor and liuthier, Vijay Shakti.
Vijay has visited Europe, too, in particular for the shooting of a movie called "The Untouchables", in which he was part of the cast, as a musician. He usually performs all over India, his family makes sitars since four generations, and his instruments are praised by well-renowned musicians like Ravi Shankar.
This incredible instrument will probably be played during SaltyBros' gigs.

Drum tracks for the forthcoming album by SoulenginE have been recorded; Giacomo Pacini played like hell under the engineering by Raff Pellino at Vico Studio in Milan.
Next in line will be Nando de Luca and then it will be Ettore and Fabio's turns.

After some weeks of awaiting (unfortunately, more than everyone could think) The RedZen music is online. Two songs are currently available at the band's MySpace page, it's promo stuff coming from the rough mixes the guys are working on.
"Cluster" and Slapdash Dance" are tunes that mix progressive rock, fusion, jazz and whatelse you could imagine, brilliant and amusing, and just like the jam sessions from which they were born!

Back from overseas mini-tour leg

5 intensive days for the Alex Carpani Band, flown in the U.S. and Mexico to play in a couple of gigs.
On March 27th they performed live at S.I.R. Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA, for a showcase which featured also the well-known guitarist Tony Spada and, among the audience, the famous artist Paul Whitehead.
After a few-hours-travel the band went to Mexicali for the twelfth edition of BajaProg, one of the most important prog festival in the world. Alex, Ettore, Fabiano and Marco played like hell on the 29th in front of about 2,000 enthusiastic people for BajaProg Open Air 2008.

Special thanks go to the tour manager Dan Shapiro, Paul Whitehead, Jim Steinfeldt, Tony Spada and Cynthia, to Alfonso Vidales and everyone who made this mini-tour leg possible. Stay tuned for updates, audio and video clips soon to come.

From Genesis To Revelation

On Monday 2/11th Alex Carpani and Ettore have been invited as guests to Radio Popolare network for the well-known radio program "From Genesis To Revelation", led by Matthias Scheller and Renato Scuffietti.

Besides having listened to much good music, they talked about Alex's release "Waterline", about next gigs of the band, and about upcoming projects by the two musicians. A nice evening, ended with the announcement of Alex Carpani Band's next gig in Milan: Capolinea Live, v.le Europa 74, Cusago (MI).

The well-known prog band Atlantis 1001 will release a brand new song for a project by Colossus entitled "Inferno", worldide distributed by Musea records.
The tune is called "Back To Earth", written by Lorenzo Pedron, Luca Scansani, Alex Ferrario, Angelo Racz and Ettore, who recorded all guitar tracks at Highway Studio. A powerful track, with plenty of astonishing rhythmics and lyric melodies, "taking no prisoners".

The Spacer Drive

DG pedals has recently developed a brand new stomp box drive, designed on Ettore's needs, and it's called "Spacer Drive".

It features an impressive, warm, and full gaining sound, fit for rock and all goes around "seventies". Setup has already changed to make room for him, and, together with his brother "The Screamer", he will be on stage on October 26th, next live appointment.

The american prog label Cypher Arts will release an album entitled "Pirate's Tales", that will feature original songs by Magenta, Tony Spada, Paul Whitehead and many others.
Alex Carpani will take part with a song called "Surviving The Assault". Ettore recorded all guitar cut, at Highway Studio, using Godin Artisan, Telecaster and Danelectro Doubleneck.

Back from Baltic Prog Fest

On July, 28th, has been held the first Baltic Prog Fest in Kernavè, Lithuania. Alex Carpani's band took part, playing the whole album Waterline and an extract from the upcoming new album, "Surviving The Assault".

A very pleasant event, the "baltic Woodstock" featured many good bands, including Arena from UK. Alex, Ettore, Fabiano and Marco gigged "taking no prisoners", and the kids have been blown away by the show.
Thanks to the whole staff, and in particular to Jonas; we're sure there will soon be more opportunities to come back to visit the lithuanian audience.

Salty Bros live

July 6th, 2007, Salty Bros acoustic duo's first performance: Joe on vocals and Ettore on guitars and backing vocals.

The showcase featured songs by Joe Cocker, Led Zeppelin, Free, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grand Funk Railroad, The Who, and many other great artists of seventies' rock, in an unplugged version, for a "take no prisoner" schedule.

Waterline Live at Verona Prog Fest 2007

May, 31st, 2007 the first day of the second edition of "Verona Prog Festival" has been held. Alex Carpani's band played the "Waterline" album in front of an amazing audience, who took care for the "take no prisoner" concert of the four guys! Thanks to the managers, in particular Giamprimo Zorzan, to the entire staff and to Paolo Carnelli from Wonderous Stories who interviewed Alex and his band at the end of the performance.

"RapSUDia 1935" on stage

Waterline live - first gig

The first "Waterline live" gig's been a success. The band performed in Zola Predosa at "Spazio Binario" auditorium on the 3 March 2007 and presented a powerful show, thanks to the skill by Alex Carpani (keyboards, vocals, visuals), Ettore Salati (guitars, bass pedals), Fabiano Spiga (bass, acoustic guitar, vocals), Marco Fabbri (drums). Songs from "Waterline" album by Alex Carpani, recently released under the american label Cypher Arts have been played, together with a hommage to Emerson, Lake & Palmer (and Aaron Copland) with the song "Fanfare For The Common Man".
Waterline technicians' staff has been fundamental for the gig, and they will collaborate also to the realisation of the live cd/dvd: Giovanni Elkan (audio), Giorgia Scalia (director), Andrea Veroni (photography).

Ettore leaves The Watch

Dear friends, musicians, music fans, it's with great sadness that I'm announcing I am leaving The Watch. The reasons which kept me playing in the band have come to an end, and when you don’t fit anymore in the project you’ve worked in for so many years, it means it’s time to go on separate ways.
These have been special times, full of hard work, and I think my contribution has been important for the band; being a professional I have spent all the time I could afford to The Watch. I have put in this project my whole energy and passion, with the aim to contribute to create the right conditions to devote completely to the band, being sure that sooner or later it should have happened. But now it’s not possible to keep on the way things are.
I played my guitar for six full years in The Watch ensemble. Vacuum is a great album, and I’m proud of having taken part to it. The Vacuum tour has been intense, we have played in great venues and with the greatest passion we have been able to provide; the warmth and support of the audience we have met could bring us to tears. But in the end I cannot ignore the problems that this tour has carried with it, they have grown stronger, and some others are waiting at the door of the next tour, so now I’m deciding to walk on a different path. The next album of The Watch will feature my last contribution to the project, I already recorded all the guitar parts and cuts of the songs, and the live DVD as well will be my last apparition on stage with the guys.
I’ve been into music since a was a little child, and now it’s twenty-five years I’m playing, I have spent all this time studying and working with my axe between my hands. Long time, isn’t it? I will keep on playing the most I can and the best I’m able to, and I’m starting with new projects right now; if someone wants to get in touch with me, I will be pleased, my personal web site http://www.ettoresalati.com/ is already online. I will be on tour in 2007 with musicians I am working with, and being also a session musician and a composer, I’m into the showbiz here in Italy and there are some productions I will take part to during the next year.

Collaboration with Gabriele Manzini

Gabriele, old friend and ex-keyboard player of The Watch, is producing a solo effort, which features Ettore on a couple of songs: "The Power Within" and "The Price". On 20th January 2007 the guys recorded guitar tracks at Highway Studio. His solo project is named "Akallabeth" and features also other progressive musicians from Italy and from abroad, like Damian Wilson, vocalist for Rick Wakeman, Ayreon, and many others. The Watch’s new album in progress!

Guitar cuts for the new The Watch album are coming to an end during these days, recorded at Simone Stucchi’s TW Studio; the first days of 2007 are devoted to the first mixes at StudioLab in Pisa, where Sergio Taglioni will be engineering, as usual.
Gear used for the new album: Godin Artisan ST, Les Paul dot, Strato Daphne, Danelectro doubleneck, 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars. Electric guitars have been amplified through the rack (ADA/Alesis/9200) and put into the Marshall 1960 cabinet, and many stomp boxes have been used, as well. The equipment has enlarged for this new album, and a part of it already shined during the gigs of the Vacuum Tour!
